In times of such uncertainty and now many of us within the Early Years Sector find ourselves working from home due to the Government’s partial closures of schools and Early Years settings.
Pre-Covid 19, high quality, accessible and affordable CPD was hard to come by – either too expensive, implications on your working day or simply not what you needed; and so the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years noticed this and have spent the past 18 months developing a brand new, FREE, certified, online CPD resource, not just for their members, but for everyone working within the Early Years Sector. The first phase courses which are already live relate to the EIF – and the next phase, due to launch in the summer, will be based on the upcoming revisions to the EYFS, as well as content relevant to practitioners in Wales.
Chloe has proudly been on the steering group for this project and played a part in the user testing and review and we can honestly say it is the best piece of online CPD either of us have done before; user friendly, bite size pieces of learning on key topics and themes for the Early Years Sector.
Each bitesize learning course has been developed with the child at the centre, with clips and case studies from real settings, and a variety of different types of setting, and enables practitioners to link theory to practice.
Before you can complete the course and earn your ‘star’, a reflection must be added on the learning undertaken and ways in which this will inform and support your practice moving forward, these reflections can then be printed off and added to your CPD portfolio.
Also particularly useful, is the links to external guidance, resources and support and the further reading available once you’ve completed a course to enable practitioners to deepen their knowledge and understanding once the course has been completed.
Similarly, EY smart is bringing the sector together as well as bringing relevant and topical CPD with it’s #DoOneThing and #ReflectOn tasks – which encourages practitioners to share activities, ideas or resources they have done as a result of their learning, on social media and the designated EY smart Facebook page.
EY smart already has countless useful, relevant and informative topics and themes loaded onto the platform, but the team are already busy behind the scenes creating new content, based upon user feedback, member enquiries and identified gaps in learning and these new courses and themes will be uploaded and available as soon as possible.
At such a critical time for our sector, EY smart is a breath of fresh air and a much needed addition to practitioners CPD arsenals; encouraging new learning, self-reflection, sharing with the wider community and ultimately, promoting high quality practice for the entire sector.
